Casona Plams in Mahahual Mexico

Casona Palms

We had the luxury of staying at Casona Palms when we visited Mahahual, Mexico last month. All I can say is WOW! What a gorgeous vacation villa!

It was perfect in every single way! I don’t even know where to start. The home is gorgeous, cool and comfortable even with no ac. The breeze flows thru the house so it is always comfortable. It is well stocked with everything you need. I could sit for hours just looking at the sea. We went for a snorkel almost every day. There are several small coral reefs right in front of the home. Each time I saw something different; octopus, lobster, barracuda, snapper, blue tang, conch, star fish, sea anemones…. the list goes on and on! The care takers were very nice. Angelina keep the house clean and tidy and kept the beds made every day. They were always there if we needed them, but never really in the way. Most times we didn’t even know they were home. We ventured to see ruins, and the lake, and swam in cenotes, ate tamales from the street vendors. We had a BLAST! I highly recommend this home if you are looking for paradise. It is heavenly!

We found this property on VRBO, here is a link:  Casona Palms

Here is another view of the beach!  Love it here….

Mexico Travel Tips and Advice For Women

Planning ahead of time is important for a gratifying and successful vacation.  This involves readying your stuff and getting details on where you will spend your vacation.  It does not need to know everything, but learning the basic things about what to bring matters. Travelling to Mexico is a great experience if you know the guide to follow:

Mexico Travel Guide

1. Packing all the stuff you need is important, but don’t forget to mentally prepared as well.  This will help you understand the different culture of the place you’re headed to.  Don’t be surprised with the practices you are not used to.

2. Mexico has exotic culture and practices, some of which are imitated from the South America. Mostly, cultures and lifestyles in other countries are not easy to do if you are not accustomed to doing it.  When it comes to climate, Mexico has a different weather from Asia, USA and Europe. Therefore it is highly advised that you take time to knowing at once the practices and culture existing in Mexico.

3. Passport is the first and most important thing to carry when driving to Mexico. Known for multiple events of crimes and accidents, bringing big cash amount is discouraged.  A simple waist-pack pocket will do for your needs of money. Also, highways and roads are not totally clean in Mexico.  It helps if you bring extra footwear to use on rough and stony roads.

4. Tips on traveling and kind of clothes to put on are important.  Mexico is a tropical place, so don’t forget your sunscreen. However, mountain areas have cold temperature, that’s why you need to bring thick clothes as well.

5. To overcome loud music during your travel, handy earplugs should be worn on your ears. Many first-class transportations play noisy music late at night. Earplugs help you not to get disturbed.

6. There’s no need to bring with you extra clothes. You will be provided with washing facilities in your place of accommodations. Toiletries, however, can be brought. Don’t forget your own towel because accommodations don’t provide any towels.

Tips for Traveling Women

1. If you’re a woman, one thing you should know when driving to Mexico is that many Mexican men will always look at you.  Those men are easily attracted to women especially to women who are not dressed modestly.

2. Dress up yourself appropriately by not wearing mini-skirts. More importantly, women should always have companions when travelling to Mexico.

3. Don’t dare talk to strangers, especially men who have the intention of flirting with you. In a sense, this tip could be funny, but it is crucial to be cautious because you don’t really know what might happen.

Always bring your Mexican Insurance

And finally, buying your Mexican car insurance before leaving for Mexico is very important. Although you may have car insurance in Canada or US, this insurance is not valid in Mexico.  Therefore, plan ahead to get your car insured immediately before leaving.  Regardless of what driving experience you want to do in Mexico, you will enjoy it if you know you have car insurance with you.

Going on a Surfing Trip? Surfing Safety in Costa Rica

Hawaii is the ancestral home of surfing. Costa Rica bears the affectionate name of the ‘Hawaii of Central America’. If you want to experience some of the best waves in the world, Costa Rica is one of the best places to go. There are also Costa Rica surf camps for beginners who want to get into the sport.

Just like any part of the world, safety is of paramount importance. Travelling to a country with an extraordinarily low crime rate isn’t an excuse for leaving your intelligence on the plane. Here are some tips for surfing in the country’s major hotspots like Montezuma, Santa Teresa, and Mal Pais.

Riptides

A riptide, or undertow, is a strong current which occurs when one current flows over another. Getting caught in a riptide will pull you away from shore. Experienced surfers intentionally surf in them to catch waves, though. Watch out for them by obeying any signs or asking a local about the conditions.

If you get caught in a riptide, remember not to panic and swim parallel to the shore. Riptides are generally only about 150 feet wide. When you escape the current, swim back to shore.

Crocodiles

The big danger with surfing in Costa Rica is the crocodiles. Certain break points which feed into river mouths may have a large crocodile hiding underwater. It’s rare for someone to get hurt by these huge reptiles, but it’s best to be safe. Ask locals about where the crocodiles hang out and check Internet surf guides for spots to avoid.

Jellyfish

This country does have a problem with jellyfish. You’ll encounter these regularly. Most surfers report finding them during the early morning and late evening when they tend to float closer to the shore.

The best way to know if there are any jellyfish in the area is to watch out for other surfers. Beaches full of surfers are likely to be safer than isolated paradises outside of town.

 Rock Bottoms

Most areas where surfers frequent have nice sand bottoms. Some break points might have rocks on the floor. Wearing a wet suit can stop you from sustaining any cuts and bruises on your next wipe out.

Surfing Conditions

Costa Rica has one disadvantage; storms. Storms regularly cross this country which is only 50 miles in width at its widest point. The last thing you want is to get caught in a lightning storm. Watch for weather signs and mind the surfing conditions. The conditions can change for the worst in just a few minutes.

If you’re unused to surfing in Central America, join a Costa Rica surf camp where they’ll teach you how to spot signs of changing conditions.

Wear a Leash

The law on most Costa Rica beaches is to wear a leash. These leashes keep your surf board firmly attached to you. On beaches where wearing a leash isn’t required by law, it’s important to do it anyway because a runaway board can quickly become a hazard for other surfers.
